Chocolate 5th and uni

After an exhilirating opera opening and ready to wash down the $10 brut glasses of champagne with a little something (you would think the opening night at the opera would have better bar service), met up with some friends at Chocolate, the new eatery slash wine bar slash gelato house on the corner of 5th and university.

First of all, the location is prime, having corner suite for full exposure...the atmosphere is a bit more non-US style in the sense that you have a continous assembly line of ordering stations: gelato station, bakery, small plate and a wine bar. Decor is west elmish, clean and functional, neutral earth tones amongst a white background... Way too much light though.

Tried the chocolate soufflé. Was a little scared when they said they could have it ready in 10 min. Not a typical fan of pre-made chocolate souffles, have always had to pre-order them 45min in advance if eating at most restuarants. Chocolate is an art afterall.

Out it came, good small size portion. Looked like a little cupcake. It was however ok, nothing spectacular and overwhelming. For some reason was expecting (or maybe desiring) a hint of chili pepper ... Had these amazing chocolate bites from Venezuela for Christmas that I can't stop tasting!) ok, there were some ice wine truffles in there that a friend brought over from Vancouver. The service however was great and friendly.

Will have to go back to try the panini's and small salad plates. The verdict is still out...
