Cafe bleu - SD ... The last supper

Cafe bleu located on washington is a fantastic french inspired dining experience. Having been here before and reviewed several times, the warm interiors, bold reds, bright bleu lights and loungy comfortable chaises, booths and tables, you quickly submerge away from the busy washington st.

The last supper started off with a pop.

Always a great way to celebrate life. An amuse busch brought out a tasty cucumber with spaniah cheese, pickled meats and a tangy olive oil based topping started the session:

The appetizer of the day included kobe beef lollipops with gorganzola baked goodness, prosciutto wrapped asparagus and mini empanadas stuffed with seafood covered in a spicy chipotle like sauce. A devistion away from the french influence, it was definately delicious:

A zoom up of the kobe lolli's with gorganzola:

The seafood empanadas:

A roasted beet and goat cheese salad was drizzled with a reduced balsamic demi glaze and accompanied with candied pecans:

The main dish, a pesto encrusted yellowtail served with caper and tomatoe pasta shells was fantastic:

The hangar steak and crab claws next were also prepared well and tasty :

For desserts, a flourless chocolate with cooke cherries was devilishly good:

The banana bread pudding with pistachio ice cream provided a great combination:

The chilean cab went phenomenally well. Bold, robust and spice complemented all the flavors.

Neighborhood - east village

A corner Spot in the east village area, Neigjborhood is your local hamburger and beer spot, set in an urban industrial space with exposed metal, lofty airy space an large window pains that swin out to the open air, as a local drinkong hole and quick bites, was looking forward to exploring.

Well dont come here for brunch or breakfast as they dont serve any. Literally only burgers, salads and beers. So change of plans and a cobb salad was ordered with grilled chicken

Fresh springs and grilled chicken were ok. The beet salad was prepared fresh, but your general assortment of canned beets were not hitting the spot:

But the surprising aspec of it was that a plate of grilled cheese sandwhich whizzed by, looking and smelling delicious, we nearly reached out and stopped the waitress to sample.

The grilled Cheese sandwhich was tasty, plain and simple, served with a cream based tomatoe soup, this was definately a treat.

Overall, the burgers looked fantastic, but the offerings were limited. A latte or an espresso wasnt available either. This truly is only a beer and burger joint, which would have been perfect at non morning hours.

The margueritas come frozen or straight up, for 3 bucks, hard to complain.

The mahi ceviche had plenty of tomatoes and few chunks of Fish and shrimp, but still tasty.

Salisbury steak-- what are you?

A surprise appeared on my desk today, a salisbury steak wirh Green onions and peppers:

It came from the a Tango del rey spot, cooked for a foodie in the closet CB.

Looking at it, started wondering why its called a salisbury steak. Afterall, its minced meat with onions and mushrooms usually and a gravy type Sauce.

Foodipedia to the rescue, Dr. Salisbury in 1897 invented the steak. Since then, its been packaged into every kind of frozen package one can think of.

In the south, its called poor mans steak. Ground beef havens and salt phines Will like this dish.

Anthology- little Italy SD

Anthology is a modern music venue that had sophisticated dinner experience, live music and 3 different levels of sitting, lounging and bar drinking.

Modern in decor, with medium size stage and great sounds, audio video and lights, from salsa to jazz to vocals and gospel, some good venues have been enjoyed here.

And for the most part the food has been pretty good, with the recession in full blown effort, some scaling back occured on this cinco de mayo.

The salsa band was liveley and shaking things up. Our starter of guacomole was disappointing. A heavy bowl With a spoon full of guac and more tortilla chips then the carb limit allowed for was not a way to start:

The dark interior wont make the pics show. The mahi ceviche was ordered which came out in a small bowl, ok but served With plantain chips (WTF?). This is where the salty crisp fríed tortillas would have complementes the citrusy tomatoe mahi!

The main corse, which was requested, was a red snapper Veracruz With citrus mango and pepper. Well, surprisingly in the First show, they ran out! Talk about Supply chain management gone wrong. So we had to settle for second best which was the chicken burrito.

It was ok, a little too mushy and Covered in your tomatoe based Sauce, not having a good time With it. Your chipotle burrito was probably half as much and twice as good.

I can't beleive that in a year's time the Quality of the food plummetted! It may have been the specials of today and yes the margueritas were helping but thumbs down on the food.

Great salsa music though, puerto rican blends, some cumbyas, merengue and salsa, but definately changed food atmosphere.

Celebrating the growth of one of our colleagues, the cheese balls were dished out:

The melting cheese balls oozing with artery clogging cAlories come serve with a side of whole milk ranch. Dangerous little balls.

The hawaiin hot sauce was something I've never seen in Hawaii:

Nothing hot by any measure, but tangy sweet, made an interesting mustard blend for dipping fries.

The teriyaki chicken sandwhch was sweetened glazed and delicious. A bit too much enriched white bread but tasty meat:

Surfs up PB...

Cucina Urbana- bankers hi

Move over Laurel, or what was the famed Laurel restuarant and welcome cucina Urbana. Having been here several times, love the use of space.

One big open space split into contiguous envrionments.. A hotel type bar, common dining room area, a living room rustic country Italian wine walled room, a pizza oven sit up bar and secluded tucked away glassed nooks... There is an environment for everyone.

Set in a modern rustic Italian food ambience, the olives are some of the best in the city. French green and black prune olives marinaded in garlic and vinagrette... Watch out friends, whole garlic cloves are just about to make us friendlier! Served with toasties and served in a jar dish on a cheese boars.. Yum:

The gorgonzola hummas spread on whole wheat was fabulous:

The roasted beet and grapefruit salad, fresh spinach leaves and beets did the body good:

The chicken djour: roasted chicken breast with extra crispy skin, spinach and mashed potatoes with a poahed egg was fantastic:

The pizza smelled amazing; thin cruted bread, fresh spring veggies and served with a side of oregano, sea salt an pepper flakes...

But the best of all was the desser pizza: a flatbread pizza covere with chocolate and raspberries sprinkled with chopped mint and dusted with sugar powder ... Omg that good:

Fantastic food, great entertaining ambience and service that puts a smile on your face, cucina is a great spot. Ask for Rebecca, a wonderful and entertaining individual....

Super tuscans and fragolino are definately appreciated!!
