Barefoot bar and grill - mission bay

Hanging out with family and friends tends to take you to some interesting locations. Barefoot bar and grill in paradise point is nestled between palm tree greens and the waterfront of mission bay.

A relaxed environment and live entertainment, the outdoor scenery was flooded with heatlamps, loud crowds and summer seeking san diegans.

The ahi tuna salad was fresh greens, tossed in a creamy dressing with several strips of ahi:

The angus sliders came out with potatoe chips, cheddar cheese and white enriched bread!

Take note of the paws stealing a chip in the background!

The veggie stacked sandwich was quite good, layered grilled onions, portobello mushroom, red pepper and spinach with fries:

The salmon glazed with a housing sauce looked delicious:

The grilled mahi tacos with chipotle sauce would go perfectly well with a marguerita!

A skinny marguerita, a no sugar option, was quite bitter... It even required a Splenda or 2.. Now a splenda marguerita was fantastic... Splendatini's next?

Buffalo wings for the kids:

Chipotle vs La salsa

The Tex mex wars are on. Chipotle with it's claim for an authentic Mexican taste has a good assortment of burritos, bowls and salads. Set up in a modular format, any of the meats (barbecoa, steak or chicken) can be wrapped in a burrito, served on topped of lettuce or put into a bowl for the carb conscious crowd.

So the pluses: the barbecoa meat, shredded pork cooked in tomatoe based mild pepper sauce. The chicken wasn't a favorite option, although charbroiled, lacked flavor. The cilantro rice had a ways to go, but wholehearted black bean offerings grilled veggie offerings and corn salsas all great options.

The bowl option displayed below with shredded pork, corn, veggies and Tabasco chipotle salsa:

Surprisingly, no whole wheat tortilla offering or fresh chile or salsa options!

La salsa, a strong competitor bringing forward more of the standard tacos, quesadillas on top of burritos and salads had a few surprises. Haven't been here for a while and the last time stopped in at La salsa was at an airport food run with limited options, noticed that the menu has expanded.

Take for one, more salads topped with beef or chicken or even lime coated shrimp. The roasted bowl salad came with roasted zucchini, broccoli, charbroiled chicken on top of rice:

The Guadalajara tacos: shredded pork with chile and a light chipotle sauce were tasty:

With full fresh salsa bar, tomatillo, pico de gallo, habanero and roasted chiles...

La salsa is bringing forward some great competition.

The artichoke with olive oil, lemon and breadcrumbs baked to perfection were absolutely delicious:

A little oil and vinegar compliments the salads fresh taste:

And yes, I happened to dig in before turnips was taken!

The oso bucco on risotto was fantastic. Rich chunky veal with saffron flavored risotto... Delicious:

The chicken cacciatore, served in a bowl with olives, stewed tomatoes and onions and grilled bread was also satisfying:

Semi freddi with caramelized walnuts was dessert of choice:

Times of celebration! Eat well :)

Southwest does Italian

In a crazy romantic search for the glorious food under the Tuscan sun, a lonely roasted chicken encounters the fresh flavors of olive oil, langostinas and capellini. Bellisimo cowboy style.

A seafood pasta primavera with broccoli, langostinas and garlic sprinkled with pecorino cheese and thyme... Delicious:

The opposite attraction to the chilified roasted tomatoes, peppers and jalepeños held together by tender chicken strips sauteed and simmered in their own hot smoky juices

Bring then together on a bed of avocado oil and lemon spinach salad, and the dynamic duo is bound to tease your palette in unexpected ways.
