Pho on 5th- Hillcrest

Pho offers to bring the Vietnamese pho soup selection to the Hillcrest community. Nestled between st. Tropez and starbucks, the Vietnamese addition brings a booth style cafeteria venue to the hood.

For starters, it's ghastly white in there... Meaning the lights and windows that face the sun. A little too bright actually. The menu options are extensive, with every variety of pho soup offerings one can think of

The spring rolls came wrapped with a rather thick piece of pork and a light semi sweet rice vinegar dipping sauce:

The pho soup with flank steak, one of the few non rare meat options, was a hearty bowl of chicken stock soup, scallions, pieces of flank, and the standard veggie pile of sprouts, basil leaves, slice jalepeno and lime that comes to flavor the soup:

The soup was tasty, however the flank steak pieces were full of fat, almost reminiscent of raw bacon from the biggest pored there is. It was rather displeasing, that I had to chopstick the pieces out. Other than that, the soup base was pretty good.

The marinaded chicken came served on top of a bbed of vermicelli rice noodles, cabbage and lettuce:

The chicken was good, but a little heavy on the greens with no flavor.

Overall, this place reminds me more of a lunch spot for a basic staple. The white lights and simple tasting food might cater to some, bu would not recommend for an intimate dining experience.
