Zuni café SF

What's a trip to SF without a stop At zuni café for a balsámic bloody mary topped with onions and a selection of oysters that's bound to have the walrus in all of us ask for more.

The classic zuni bloody....
Perfectly paired with some miyagis and Pacific hog island oysters

The chive and scallion mignionette is always fantastic. These just go down with a freshing bang.

The legendary chicken, which takes an hour to prepare is what brings the crowds out:

The grass fed burger on buttered foccacia, sauteed red onions and pickled cucumber, with shoestring fries, Finger licking good:

some roasted baby brussel sprouts and carrots are lurking in the background.

mouth watering grass fed local farm beef.

love this place!

Perry's SF

A local spot on union street, Perrys brings classic american traditions in an Irish bar meets sports bar setting.

The bloody marys were small compared to the size expected, though it was spicy and good:

The crab benedicts were two lumps of crab topped With poached egg and hollandaise Sauce, served with home fries:

The vegetables frittata came out more like an omelette, made with grilled onions, asparagus and mushrooms:

Overall, it was ok, but definately not the boulangerie of choice!

Preston oysters were the choice today, With a lemony mignionette Sauce to accompany, a refreshing start:

THE Dorado ceviche was really good: mahi chunks, marinaded in a spicy lemony vinagrette, topped with a jalepeno slice:

Served With fried plantains, it provided an interesting combination of flavors and textures.

The ahi tuna came prepared on top of fava beans and spinach leaves:

Delphina pizza SF

Delphina pizza is literally on gluttany road (tartine, delphina, bi-rite ice creamery) are all on the same street.... Very dangerous!

This little pizza place is probably the best pizza place in SF. Le me tell you why. Very thin crusted pizza is prepared for you With just the right amount of sauce, olive oil and specialty toppings. It comes out served on hot paddles, bubbling with pockets of cheese and spice! Every dish has a slightly fire oven burntness to it, which is absolutely delicious.

Small and bustling With activity, it doesn't have the atmosphere of A16 (another favorite pizza spot), it brings you front and center to a distinctive fast paced kitchen. Plates are swirling All around you, sizzling by, close enough that you may be temores to fork up a spoonful ;)

The broccoli raab pizza was delicious: brocollini strands on a white marguerita thin crusted pizza is definitely the way to eat your veggies!

With real Spices to sprinkle on, delphina's is definately a spot you can't miss!

Supperclub SF

With a pop culture themed environment, separate entertainment areas and white linen beds to eat on, Dining At THE supperclub is both a good meal and a show that is bound to entertain the Open minded.

You enter into a non visible door With only a red neon sign outside. Past a dark little foyer, a red leather bar awaits you. Everything is red: leather walls the lights.

Enter through the double doors into a completely white space: walls lined With beds and pillows, adopting the colors of the alternating LED light System:

There is a performance that occurs, local display of costumed characters and bass thumping mixes spinning in THE background.

None of the food pics came out. You aré served a pre-fixed 4 course meal, of the chefs selection.

The starter was a spinach salad, With goat cheese, mandarín Orange and crispy salty taro root shavings. It was delicious.

A Fish based soup was served Next. It happened to be served in a dog bowl, which wasnt sure i liked. Bread crumbs and oysters floating in the broth, a touch of sea salt would have added the final touch:

The main course was a tenderloin beef strip served With some greens. This accompanoed With an persimmon type ice cream, chocolate truffles and sugar crusted canopy, completed the dinner.

The food was great. On this occassion, the performances have been minimized. I remember their use to be flying trapese artists, aerialists, fire breathers, drag performances and modern Art interpretations of the latest club beat. Massage therapists roamed the floors offering knot releases while you ate in bed.

Fantastic. Latte's aré whipped up

A bustling local spot, With lines Out THE door, grab a morning bun before they run out!

FootHills Milling Co- Maryville, Tennesse

You all come back now,,, ya hear! is what the patrons at Foothills milling company will tell you as you walk out. If you are visiting Tennessee or are here on business, here is a fantastic spot for a meal.  A family own restaurant that offers good dining and classic rustic feel in the heartland... ok not really in the heartland but they make you feel like you are at home.

I have to warn you though, pictures weren't possible on this food tasting adventure. But was the food good, let me tell you. You walk into this red painted 1 story building off of a side road you don't really know where you are going. There are no big signs, no neon pointing spotlights, just a non-descript red bright building. Open the door and you are literally taking a step back to inhale all the sweet bbq meat smells. The paplov response is initiated... the host taking the cue, swings you into the dining room setting... low lit candle light, dim atmosphere but classic civil war era pieces adorn the walls.

A look at the menu had my eyebrow raised, only because I wanted to try just about everything. For the appetizers, they had fried Green Tomatoes: tomato pepper chutney, basil aioli and goat cheese. Fried Oysters were also available: Fresh gulf oysters fried and served on sour dough toast topped with green onion remoulade, Benton’s bacon,  and celery. You will have to take a side of lipitor with every meal.

The spinach salad was delicious. Baby spinach wrapped in a warm Bacon Dijon Dressing made with goat cheese, onion and roasted tomatoes, sprinkled with crispy black eyed peas. But the piece of resistance, was the pork loin. All juicy meat loin. All natural pork loin chop grilled and topped with wild mushrooms and truffle fonduta, served with mashed root vegetables and baby green beans. Meat lovers, beware.. it taste real out here in this neck of the woods! Beautiful presentation.

Wonderful sushi - Hillcrest

Wonderful sushi opened up where the Ichiban sushi place was in the córner of richmond/Cleveland. Wonderful it wasnt.

It was ok, but did not rock my world. The hosts are grateful and the selection is quite broad, however was not blown away.

The yellowtail sashimi was good portioned and was fresh:

The el fuego roll was actually the best thing. Tuna Covered in a spicy red Sauce with jalepeno slices on top. The Sauce overpowered the tuna, but it had a good kick.

The salmón was a little disappointing. The inner crab meat did not have the fresh crab taste, and the carrot piece was dry. The salmón Covered roll was ok:

The red dragon roll was not bad: crunchy shrimp tempura topped With spicy tuna:

Only a door down from sushi Ono, and sister restuarant to THE wonderful sushi in rancho penisquito, the service was great. Although i like my sushi chefs like i like my Massage therapists: At least 20 years of experience required. Its a grade above Ono, and definately does not have the social scene that Ono has, but wouldnt necessarily go out of the way. Perhaps the local specials could win one over.

Kensington grill

This is a fantastic restuarant Nestled in the kensington area.
modern flavors mixed a rustic element, a casual Dining experience. Warm earth tones welcome you to an odd entrance of candles and scents. The dining room and bar lay right behind.

To start, the special of today, a mushroom soup that was non creamy, chicken broth based, drizzled With truffle oil and spinach, was delightfully delicious:

The panne'd sea bass was crusted in a horseradish shreds, situated on top of mashed potatoes and adornes With a chive oil...

Well prepared, though a little heavy on the potatoes, a sauted spinach With pan seared garbanzos and andallouise sausage flavorings would have christened the plate.

The Colorado lamb sirloin was phenomenal. Grilled radicchio, tender lamb With cherry demi glace was a forkful of happiness:

The paperdelle had asparagus, mushroom and marsala cream, cooked al denté and nicely prepared:

The swordfish served on top of grilled asparagus With a Tarragon hollandaise Sauce and crab risotta was sensational:

For sweets, go for the messy brownie sunday, a blend of espresso, chocolate , dulce de leche gelato that brings the inner happy Child in you:

The banana bread pudding With rum flambe and toasted walnuts was great, but would have been even better if ir we're served on top of a graham crusted chocolate Sauce layer:

And the blueberry cheescake with blueberry sauce was also quite good, not as heavy on the cheese cake and probably blended with ricotta cheese:

The comfort and distinctiveness of each dish has this place as a savory star.

Bleu Boheme - kensington

A rainy gloomy Day calls for some comfort food. A craving for mussels brought us to bleu boheme.

Having been here before (Search the past blogs), the moules a la anciene... A classic mustard cream Sauce with pomme frites:

Th black mussels were steamed open in the mustard cream sauce, good size and hearty. The pomme frites were razor thin shreds sprinkled with herb du provence.. nice blend of thyme, lavendar and sea salt. Hold on a minute! The best part of the mussels is to have the fríes soak up the flavor;

Fantástico! Dipping the fries in the sauce is the best part of the dish!

The tarte au rochobon is a classic dish here: eggs, carmelized onions, bacon and gruyere :

The double salmon salad came out nicely prepared-- a baked salmon slice adorned with a green mixed salad, served with a crostini topped smoked salmon with capers and brussel sprouts:

the german style potatoe salad, vinagry with salmon pieces was nice. The capers and vinagrette paired with the salmon well, the brussel sprouts could have done without.

A nutella crepe With white chocolate ice cream was fabulous. Delicately folded crepe with rich hazenult chocolate nutella, a strip of rolled dark chocolate and sprinkled with powder sugar would have had the diabetic running out the door!:

And lets not forget the fresh bread, soft, warm and crusty served with salt free whipped butter:

After a meal like this, an espresso was much needed:

One of kensington's charms... Good eats at bleu boheme.

Cowboy Star - SD

Welcome wild wild west... Well not exactly. Cowboy star, located in the east village brings the modern western feel to an interior with heavy wooden beams, western country music playing in the background, and cowhide Covered chairs in an earthtone contemporary look.

Creative cocktail lists, meat diahes galore, this is a carnivore's place:

On this occasion, had the venison carpaccio... Thinly sliced venison meat with capers and shredded jicama (?)..

Very nice. A Beet salad With baked goat cheese complimented well:

A basil martini and a salt cured prosciutto topped crostini brought it full circle.

With a fully Open kitchen.. A Concept that i love because you get to see the action upfront and close... As well as inspect the cleanliness, definately a place to round up the herds!

West coast - North Park

The rebirth of Hawthorn's is West Coast Tavern, a small plates venue next to the theatre in north park.

The interior is divided into 3 areas, a small bar like area that has brick exposed walls, 4 high bar tables and stools and a bar that can host 10 or so people. The two other areas offer a small U-bar and a seating section with two curved booths facing each other (this was a change from before). The entry room, Lofty style, open air with brick and exposed metal, has a bit of a raw industrial feel:

The menu, completely revamped. It's small plates, ordered all at once, served as they come when they come. Prices range from 5 to 11 or so dollars.

The seared ahi came out adorned with chopped cabbage drizzled in a spicy vinagrette, a fried plantain chip and with a side of pumpkin seed pesto:

The tuna was well prepared and the pesto sauce was an interesting touch, though seared tuna in my opinion should not be masked by sauces. The plantain chip added some texture.. And reminded me of the taro chip laden tuna tartare at Aqua in SF!

Next on the list was the Pan fried crabcakes:

The blue crab was actually good, but a dollop too much thousand island sauce. A little red peppered garlic aioli and arugula instead of the cabbage slaw would have made this a fabulous plate.

The angus beef sliders were fantastic. A little slightly bigger than your averge sliders, requiring a full two hands to grip, the angus meat topped with carmelized onions, blue cheese and toasted mini buns hit the spot:

The butter bleu salad, a Bibb lettuce dressed with candied nuts, vinagrette and blue cheese chunks was also quite good. The crabcakes should have been served on top of this!

Sleeves rolled up, the faint dizzy spells of malnutrition fading (lol), and a spicy bloody Mary later... We were ready for more: bring on the chicken flatbread

For 8 bucks, you get a a nice portioned flatbread oozing with two different cheeses, sweet onion, cilantro, red peppers and roasted chicken... Total pizza fix.

Out of curiousity, reqested the eggplant sliders. Didn't exactly know what to expect with this one. Out came a fried eggplant that was double battered dipped, sandwiched with arugula and roasted pepper and melted goat cheese with hints of roasted garlic, all in between two double toasted mini buns:

These were better than expected. The flavors all mixed well, harmonizing every last drop of cholesterol laden heaven!

The bites are yummy and well priced. With a full bourban bar, there are hopes that the rebirth will last.

PS: industry night Tuesday night, $3 u-call it's.
